The Podere and its History

The tradition of the Podere (small farm) goes back to the 20s, when the farmers of the area would get together and cook bread around the oven that is now located in the main house.

The area was cultivated for grain, and after harvesting, it would be completely abandoned by everyone except the crickets, giving the location its name.

Even today, the crickets remain active occupants of the calm summer evenings.

The most recent history was written by the current owner, Saverio Del Buffa, who has dedicated himself to organizing the terrain since the 80s and 90s and breeding pure-blooded English horses.  After 20 years of working with horses, he transformed the Podere into a charming spot, exclusively made for those who want to escape the stress of life and find some relaxation. The Podere is located deep in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, in the Valdarno (Arno valley), strategically positioned between Florence, Arezzo and Siena. It is very close to the area nicknamed “Chiantishire”, and the medieval village of Greve, close to the Via del Vino (Wine Road) that connects the Valdarno to Siena. The area is characterized by natural beauty, such as the famous calanchi formations that can be found very close to the Podere.

Located nearby is the Vallombrosa natural reserve – 1,270 hectares covered by a blanket of white fir trees.

Another nearby attraction, about 15 km away, is the famous outlet “The Mall”, where the most prestigious names in fashion can be found, such as Gucci, Hogan, Prada, Burberry and Armani, all at discounted prices.

The Podere is composed of a main house, the stables and three charming little houses, each with its own privacy and close to the beautiful pool.

All the houses are furnished in a quaint, antique style.
